Year 5 Bagpacking

The year 5 squad spent the afternoon bagpacking at Sainsbury’s, Low Fell. They were raising money to go on a residential next year. It is expected that the afternoon has raised well over £800. Twenty one players plus parents took part. Thanks goes to Sainsbury’s, its customers and all players & parents for their efforts.

Year Five Development Squad Training

More wind but also some sleet and rain to liven things up.  Fourteen players turned up for the training ahead of the festival at the Academy of Light on Tuesday.

North Tyneside Festival - Felling Gateshead East ‘A’ 0 Leeds ‘A’ 5

Team: Seam McCormack (s. Jack Young), Michael Brown, Daniel DeCristofaro, David Daley, Conor Cooper (capt), Jack Doherty, Jordan Lee, Matthew Fisher, Craig McGill, Matthew Atkinson (s. Thomas Snowdon) & Daniel Young.

This match was played in atrocious windy conditions that blew straight down the pitch. Unluckily we lost the toss and faced the wind first half. Leeds scored two early goals. The wind then led to Sean having an asthma attackand having to be replaced in goal by Daniel DeCristofaro. Both Jack Young and Jordan Lee had to come off. By the end of the match, we’d conceded five but were glad to get out the horrendous conditions.

Other scores:

Woking 3 North Tyneside ‘B’ 2

Rother Valley 2 Dover 3

Rotherham 0 Gloucester 0

Bradford ‘A’ 1 St. Helens ‘A’ 1

Team: Seam McCormack, Michael Brown, Daniel DeCristofaro, David Daley, Mark Williams, Jack Doherty, Jordan Lee, Matthew Fisher, Craig McGill, Matthew Atkinson & Daniel Young.

Scorers – Matt Atkinson and Craig McGill

This was a good performance by tired players who just couldn’t hang on to the lead in this entertaining match which saw Craig McGill get his first Town Team goal.

Matthew Atkinson opened the scoring with a well placed shot early on before Bradford equaliser. Michael Brown’s freekick was dropped by the Bradford keeper allowing Craig McGill to race in to get his goal. Again Bradford came back to equalise. With about five minutes to go, Bradford broke forward and get the winner despite Daniel DeCristofaro’s efforts to keep it out.

North Tyneside Festival – Woking 3 Felling Gateshead East ‘Res’ 1

Team: Daniel Gray, Josh Stoddart (s. Adam), Jack Young, Nick Waddle, David Daley (s. Steven Johnson), Thomas Snowdon, Cameron Hutchinson (capt), James Hills, Connor McMillan & Andrew Williams.

Scorer – Connor McMillan

The ‘B’ team suffered badly with a first half of wind against them. They went two down before Connor McMillan pulled one back at the beginning of the second half. Unfortunately, Woking got another against the wind and Felling couldn’t get it back.

North Tyneside Festival - Felling Gateshead East ‘A’ 2 Rother Valley 3

Team: Seam McCormack, Michael Brown, Daniel DeCristofaro, Conor Cooper (capt), Mark Williams, Jack Doherty, Jordan Lee, Matthew Fisher (s. Thomas Snowdon), Craig McGill (s. Cameron Hutchinson), Matthew Atkinson & Daniel Young.

Scorers – Matthew Atkinson & Daniel Young.

Both matches today were games dictated by the wind. During the first half, Matt Atkinson opened the scoring with a shot from short range while Daniel Young volleyed an excellent Jack Doherty cross into the net – another spectacular from Daniel. Craig McGill was unlucky to see his shot saved by the Rother keeper. Felling started well against the wind but opportunities were not taken and Rother took advantage of the wind to bring the match back all square then to grab a late winner.

North Tyneside Festival – Bradford ‘B’ 2 Felling Gateshead East ‘Res’ 1

Team: Daniel Gray, Steven Johnson (s. Adam), Jack Young, Josh Stoddart, Nick Waddle, Thomas Snowdon, David Daley (s. Jack Tobin), Cameron Hutchinson (capt), James Hills, Matthew Atkinson (s. Connor) & Andrew Williams.

Scorer – Cameron Hutchinson

The ball never got out of the Felling half in the first half of the match. A large pitch and strong breeze made it difficult for the Felling players. Daniel Gray made an excellent save before a shot went through his hands to open the scoring for Bradford. Lack of tackling saw Felling go two behind. With the wind in the second half, Felling played better and had more possession. Cameron Hutchinson pulled a goal back with a cool finish. Felling kept pushing but ran out of time. If the match was a few minutes longer, who knows?

North Tyneside Festival Opening at Whitley Bay Playhouse

The festival was opened by Mr Wilbur (English Schools FA Chairman). He welcomed everyone to the Festival and stated he hoped we would have better weather than last year (and last weekend!) Eleven boys represented the Association at the opening. A number draw was carried out to choose the two players to go up for the certificates. James Hills and Andrew Williams are pictured below getting the sqoad’s certificates from Mr Wilbur. There’s also a photo of the eleven with the ESFA Chairman. Some of players came to and from the opening by Metro. The ones that livened up Monkseaton Metro Station are also shown.

Representative Friendly – Felling Gateshead East 0 Hull 3

A mixture team played against Hull at Leam today. Unfortunately the first team squad have been badly let down by some parents, who after months of notice, organised other things during today and during the course of the week.

Team – Sean McCormack, David Daley (s.Josh Stoddart), Jack Young (s. James Hills), Conor Cooper, Daniel DeCristofaro, Jack Doherty, Jordan Lee, Michael Brown, Craig McGill, Daniel Young (s. Matt Atkinson)  & Matthew Fisher (s. Andrew Williams)

Felling started off brightly with Daniel Young busy up front trying to create chances. Both Jack Doherty and Jordan Lee had shots early on but Felling opportunities were few and far between from then on.

Hull scored all three of their goals in the first half as various different errors let them in.

The latest year 5 v. Year 6 reserves session was held at Gateshead Leisure Centre. The lads involved played 5-a-side. There were two year 5 teams and a year 6 squad. The year 5 squad provided the strongest opposition yet and won some of the six minute matches.

Some excellent news has come through that our year 7 goalkeeper, Dean Thompson has signed for Newcastle FC U12 Academy side until the end of the season. Dean was first spotted playing in goal while in our year 6 team last season and has been in the Development group. It was there where he was the only NUFC keeper to save a Peter Beardsley penalty!!  Well done Dean you deserve it for all the hard work you’ve put in.

Congratulations also to Redheugh Boys Club Under 12’s on reaching the County Cup Final. The squad, which makes most of the Year 7 District side beat Redby from Sunderland 2-0  to reach the final. Joe MacIntosh and Gavin Moore scored the goals.

An excellent achievement.

31st January 2006

The year 6 reserve squad had an extra hour of five-a-side at Gateshead Leisure Centre together with three year 5’s. This was the second such session in preparation for the year 6 North Tyneside Festival at Easter.
