In dull and cold conditions, the squad
brightened everyone up with an impressive performance against Darlington. It
was fantastic to see moves which included passes into double figures supported
by well thought-out movements.
Darlington found it difficult to get
the ball during constant Felling attacks early on. A shot by Wesley Maddock
could not be held by the Darlo keeper and Felling were one up. Luke Birkbeck
fired over before another attack enabled Owen Henderson to score his first
District goal with a well-taken finish. Callum Middleton was able to make it
three when he followed up on a save from the keeper which came from a Lewis
McNall shot.
Continued 110% workrate from the
central midfield pairing of Wesley Maddock and James Cummins was maintained
into the second half. This was one of the factors why the team were so much on
top today. James found himself out on the left byeline and crossed using his
weaker left foot for James Fiddes to score with an excellent finish. Before the
end, Lewis McNall made it five with a typically strong run and finish.
Great performance, excellent attitudes
and lots on smiles on faces!!!!

Although still at not at full strength
through injury and illness, the under 11 squad pulled off one of the best first
half performances by a Felling Town side in recent years. Chester-le-Street
came into the match having an excellent record of wins this season. This was
the first Durham and Northumberland league match of the new campaign and both
teams need credit for an enthralling match that was played in the right spirit
showing what Town Team football is and why it is so important.
Felling started off the stronger with
early half chances before Chester-le-Street had their first chance. Captain,
Luke Birkbeck found space and his well struck shot just went over the bar.
Close marking on Lewis McNall allowed Callum Middleton to have some extra space
which he used to full effect creating chances and also causing difficulties for
the defence. His first attempt just went wide but then he opened the scoring as
he held off his marker to slot home. Some good work from Owen Henderson
initiated chances for the front two but these chances were well saved.
Lewis McNall got his tenth goal of the
season with a trademark piece of play.
Chester-le-Street came back into the
game more in the second half but excellent handling from Connor Gardner in goal
prevented them pulling a goal back for a long time. Good tackles from all the
back four kept Felling on top.
Eventually, Chester-le-Street did pull one back with a well taken finish
from just outside of the six yard box. As Chester looked for the equaliser,
Julian Tomlinson capped a first class personal performance by breaking out of
defence and running strongly upfield with the ball before setting up Lewis
McNall to score a third.

With Stockton calling off the league
game for today, a replacement fixture was organised with York who are one of
the top form Yorkshire sides at the moment. The same outfield team that beat
Leeds two weeks earlier started. However, they could not capitalise on some
early possession which then led to York taking control whilst they had the
strong wind. Errors and a lack of confidence at the back together with some
midfieders not covering key positions allowed York to race on to a big lead.
James Fiddes shot wide early on before Cameron Salkeld reduced the deficit with
a powerful run and shot.
The second half gave Felling the
wind but heads were already down and whereas the performance was better,
chances were not converted up front and York scored at the other end on the
break. Harry Young was unlucky not to score midway through the half as his shot
just missed but then he did get a goal as the ball broke to him and his firm
effort went straight in.

With a very depleted squad of
players, Felling Gateshead East travelled down to Leeds for this friendly
match. From the beginning Felling showed extreme determination across the whole
squad. Excellent ball work and quick response tackling ensured Felling
dominated the first half shocking their hosts. Callum Middleton and Wes Maddock
both had shots saved while Owen Henderson’s excellent crosses caused the Leeds
defence various problems. Callum Middleton was fouled in the box with the
resultant penalty being cooley converted by Wes Maddock for his fourth goal of
the season. Jack Fisher Diaz was unlucky not to double the lead when his left
half volley rose above players in the box for the Leeds keeper to save.
The second half was harder for the
Felling squad as Leeds had had a bit of a talking to at half time. Felling
still had efforts but these were well saved by the Leeds keeper. As the match
went on, Leeds pushed for the equaliser winning a number of corners in a row and
creating one big goalmouth scramble. Adam Burton made some vital tackles. It
must be noted that the whole back four were exceptional together with excellent
handling from stand in goalkeeper Adam Ridley. Wes Maddock ran himself ragged
during the match creating multiple chances while James Cummins protected the
back four.
This was the first time ever Felling
Gateshead East had won at Leeds. It was also the first ever clean sheet against
Leeds in a year 6 match.
A brilliant achievement and well
done to all the players.

In very windy conditions, both teams
started their Harrison League campaign. South Tyne won the toss and elected to
kick with the wind. Felling tried to pass the ball and create moves but the
wind made this difficult. South Tyneside scored twice as the ball on both
occasions was left unchallenged. Callum Middleton had a goal unluckily ruled
out for offside before he got on the scoresheet with a neat shot. Some
excellent pace and recovery tackles from Julian ensured we didn’t go further
behind as South Tyneside pressed while they had the wind advantage.
The second half started with Cameron
Salkeld and Wesley Maddock winning the ball consistently in the middle of the
park. A deflected goal from Lewis McNall and a firm finish from Cameron Salkeld
put Felling Gateshead in front in a very short space of time. A change around
to three at the back and five in midfield was made with the introduction of
James Cummins. Towards the end ewis McNall got his second of the match and
ensured the team’s third 11-a-side win.

Saturday school exams disrupted the
squad today with some players that performed so well the week before missing
and one having to go at half time.
Even so, this allowed valuable
lessons to be learnt that Town Team football is an excellent standard which we
have to match week in week out throughout the squad.
Sunderland started with the wind and
were able to penetrate consistently throughout the half showing some good
football and use of their physically strong players to dominate in areas of the
field.
They took the lead after five
minutes. A through ball by Felling was not capitalised upon and Sunderland went
back up the other end to score. At half time, they had scored another two, to
go in 4-0 up.
The introduction of Callum Middleton
and Joe Bainbridge improved the situation in the second half. Callum was
unlucky not to score with a volley which crashed against the bar. It’s a pity
this didn’t go in as it would have been one of our best technical goals.
Another moment of brilliance saw Jack Fisher-Diaz dribble around four players
but was unable to convert. Sunderland scored a fifth near the end.

The first match of the under 11 Town
Team season saw the squad face East Cleveland who had already played against
Chester-le-Street and Hull this season.
Felling, depleted of players due to
Emmanuel College tests and other reasons, were forced to play some players in
unfamiliar positions.
East Cleveland started brightly with
the best of the early possession. The strength of the Felling attack and
midfield then took over. Excellent balls through and link up play, especially
from the Felling left between Ewan Clelland and Jack Fisher-Diaz allowed
Felling create chance after chance. Lewis McNall grabbed his first while Jack
got the second, Moments of lost concentration, allowed the visitors to come
back into the game and they scored twice to draw level. From then on, most of
the passing and forward play belonged to Felling. Excellent passes from Cameron
Salkeld and Wesley Maddock opened up the opposition. Wesley scored an excellent
goal while Cameron battled hard to protect the back four before setting up
Lewis McNall to increase his tally.
Felling were awarded a penalty which
Lewis converted and were unlucky not to get another one minutes later. It was
excellent to see the new Town Team Captain, Luke Birkbeck continually
encouraging his players from the unfamiliar centre back position.
The management team was stunned at
the confidence and ability shown today at times against a good East Cleveland
side. We hope this is kept up throughout the season. Well done to everyone
involved.
